CLASS A1 WOOD PELLETS

Wood pellets constitute of the most ecological and economical fuel solutions.

However, when choosing this product, you should pay special attention to its quality. It is worth considering not only the price, but also the heating values. Top class A1 wood pellets constitute a biofuel that meets the highest quality standards. It is distinguished with high calorific value, and low content of ash and harmful substances. Compared to other types of pellets, those with the class A1 ENPlus certificate are most often chosen by people who are looking for fuel that is ecological and efficient. Below, we will take a closer look at A1 class wood pellets and explain what makes them unique and why it is worth investing in this type of fuel.

WHAT WOOD PELLETS CLASSES ARE THERE?

The main wood pellets classification tool is the ENPlus worldwide certification system. It is based on following strict quality control procedures across the entire supply chain. This is important because this process applies not only to the manufacturer, but also to traders, distributors and other entities that are involved in delivering the finished product to the customer.

Three main classes of wood pellets are distinguished:

Class A2 wood pellets

medium quality, usually used in large industrial heating systems,

Class A1 wood pellets

top quality, intended mostly for individual households.

WHAT CLASS A1 WOOD PELLETS EXACTLY ARE?

Class A1 pellet is a solid fuel produced by compressing wood sawdust and shavings at high temperature followed by the application of pressure This process enables obtaining pellets of uniform length and diameter, ready for burning in boilers and pellet stoves. Class A1 wood pellets conforms to very high quality standards, which is confirmed by the ENPlus A1 certificate issued by the European Pellet Council (EPC). It is also worth mentioning that when choosing pellets of a lower quality class, you can expect a lot of mineral impurities, such as sand or glue, which may negatively affect the combustion performance. The price may seem lower at first but, ultimately, you spend much more you need to use more pellets to heat the entire house.

WHAT DISTINGUISHES CLASS A1 WOOD PELLETS?

Class A1 wood pellets offer several advantages to the final users. They include:

High calorific value:

Class A1 wood pellets are characterised with high energy value amounting to at least 4.6 kWh/kg. It means that the pellets are highly efficient and provide much heat. Compared to other types, A1 class wood pellets are also distinguished with stable combustion, which translates to efficiency and savings.

Low ash content:

Class A1 wood pellets contain very little ash, which is important for keeping the boiler or stove clean. Excess ash may adversely affect the device operation. This is why it is worth choosing class A1 pellet, which contains only up to 0.7% of ash. What is more, its ash can be used as a garden fertiliser.

Low content of harmful substances:

Class A1 pellets are environment-friendly as they contain a very small amount of harmful substances. Compared to other types, class A1 wood pellets are characterised with a minimum sulphur and chorine content. Moreover, the pellets are not contaminated with other compounds or adhesives, which could adversely affect the boiler operation or the environment. This makes class A1 pellets safe for the environment and the users’ health.
